Female singer and rapper Nicki Minaj was one of the most creatively dressed musical icons during the 2017 MTV VMAs, held in California on August 27. She wowed international audiences with her jumpsuit made of latex.

The latex jumpsuit was a Nicki Minaj original. It was a skin-tight suit with cleavage cutouts and had a striking color of bubble gum pink. Then, she also donned a second-skin bodysuit with a corset-style bodice.

The rapper finished the entire look with an expensive choker, orange and pink pumps, bangles and cross necklace, People reported.

According to her Instagram account, the choker alone cost $1 million. She wrote in the caption, “If I lose it, will you give it back to me?”

Stunning performance

Minaj also performed with Katy Perry, as she sang her newest single, “Swish Swish.” She changed her outfit from the Barbie doll-like jumpsuit to a fashionable ensemble that was designed to appear like a referee’s shirt. It had black and white lines, and her hair was arranged in a high pony tail.

The singer, meanwhile wore a white ensemble with gold-colored lining around the neckline, the sleeves, and the skirt. It had a basketball-themed print on the white fabric.

Minaj received just a single nomination, but did not win that night. She was nominated in “Best Choreography” for her featured act in Ariana Grande’s “Side To Side.” Kanye West took home the award, besting the other nominees in the category.

Red carpet arrivals

Aside from the singer-rapper, there were several other musical artists who shined on the red carpet. First was the host of the night, Katy Perry. She had several dress changes throughout the show, but what she wore on the red carpet was a long gown created by French designer Stephane Rolland, Refinery29 reported.

Mel B reportedly chose a ready-to-wear attire during that night. Fashion analysts speculated that her sequined sleeveless dress came from Discount Universe. The same design has been seen from other celebrities, such as Kesha and Rihanna.

Meanwhile, pop icon Lorde picked Monique Lhuillier to take charge of designing her outfit.

It was a melodramatic strapless lavender gown, simple on the top but ornate at the bottom. Also among the best dressed list was Pink, the recipient of the “Video Vanguard Award.”

The “Just Like Fire” singer chose to break norms, but wearing menswear. She wore a three-piece suit and tie on the red carpet, Hollywood Life reported.
