Rumors recently revealed that a new Joker origin movie is in the works. The upcoming spin-off movie about the villain will tell the story of a Joker being bullied in the past, according to Batman News.

In a recent interview with a podcast titled “Joe Rogan Experience,” former Mixed Martial Arts fighter Brendan Schaub shared some insights about the Joker spin-off film. The movie is slated to be a dark story that will center on Joker’s evil smile, and how everybody made fun of him when he was a child.

Last week, rumors came out that Martin Scorsese and “The Hangover” director Todd Phillips are teaming up to produce the new movie about the villain.

Dark Joker

Schaub may not be directly related to the film, but he reportedly has connections to the people behind it. According to Batman News, he is a mixed martial arts enthusiast who is a friend of Todd Phillips’ agent, Todd Feldman. He has made a name in Hollywood in the past few years, after his stint with the martial arts world.

The podcast interview talked about director Tim Burton, who has directed various Batman films in the past. The conversation went on to talk about the superhero, which led to a discussion about the rumored movie for the Joker.

Schaub noted that his friend Feldman has been putting the project together with Phillips. The movie will be a darker version of the tale, with a story that will show his childhood and the origin of his iconic evil smile.

He compared these scenes to those scenes shot along the streets in Brooklyn, saying that it will be “super dark and real.”

Todd Phillips as writer

Phillips is slated to write the script as well. If the rumors are true, this will be among the first projects by Warner Bros that will focus on a story about an iconic DC comic book villain.

The new Joker stand-alone movie is speculated to be set in the 1980s in Gotham City, in order to show a crime film that is both “gritty and grounded.” Scorsese is well-known for his thriller movies and crime-oriented films, such as “Taxi Driver” and “The King Of Comedy.”

Jared Leto recently portrayed the role in the movie, “Suicide Squad.” Here, the villain's relationship with Harley Quinn was the central theme of the story.

The famous DC comics enemy has also been played by actors Health Ledger and Jack Nicholson.

The Joker is one of the main villains in the Batman series. He is often described as a psychopath known for his trademark smile and laughter.
