WWE star John Cena is all set to star in the “Transformers” spinoff “Bumblebee.” The wrestling champion has landed a meaty role in the spinoff and he has also confirmed the development on social media. So, fans should get ready to see him along with a younger cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Rachel Crow, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Pamela Adlon among others in the highly-anticipated spinoff that would be arriving in theaters next year in Dec.

A lot riding on shoulders of John Cena

The “Transformers” spinoff “Bumblebee” has signed in John Cena for a significant role and it seems like the franchise is trying to add some weight to its fading charisma through his inclusion.

The makers are looking to bank on the star power of the wrestling world star and though it is not yet clear what character he is playing, it is sure to be someone who has a fair screen presence. Also, it is speculated that Cena will have a big responsibility on his shoulders and going by his career stint in films, one can expect good work from him.

Notably, Cena has starred in several movies over the years. He has been making his presence felt and his most recent release was “The Wall” where he starred opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson. He has also been seen in movies like “Trainwreck,” “Sisters,” and “Daddy’s Home.” So, fans can look forward to seeing him in a new role in the spinoff based on “Transformers.”

“Bumblebee” story set in 1987

The story of “Transformersspinoff is based in the year 1987 and brings forth events that took place before the first film in the series.

It revolves around the small and yellow autobot that Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) stumbles upon in a junkyard and soon realizes that it is not any ordinary VW bug. The film is being directed by Travis Knight and the script has been written by Christina Hodson. It is the first spinoff of the “Transformers” series and is expected to serve as the pilot for the Transformers Cinematic Universe.

However, the film will have to encounter tough competition when it arrives in theaters. This is because the much-awaited DC comics movie “Aquaman” is releasing in the same week and so is the untitled Fox movie. Not only this, the preceding week has “Mary Poppins Returns” and “Spider-Man” lined up. So, it would be interesting to watch the performance of this ambitious spinoff that has definitely added to its attraction by roping in John Cena.

Bumblebee” is slated to hit the theaters on Dec. 21, 2018.
