Game of Thrones” actress Indira Varma has confirmed that Ellaria Sand is finished on the show after her last scene with Cersei Lannister. In one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the show, Cersei exacts the most painful revenge on her enemy by killing her daughter in front of her.

The Queen’s Justice

It can be recalled that Ellaria Sand and Cersei Lannister have long had a bone to pick with each other. In Season 4, Cersei’s champion “The Mountain,” Gregor Clegane fought Ellaria's lover, Dorn’s Prince Oberyn Martel via trial by combat.

Prince Oberyn agreed to fight as Tyrion Lannister’s champion to avenge his sister’s rape and murder at the hands of The Mountain. In one of “Game of Thrones’” most brutal episodes, Oberyn dies in graphic fashion, with his eyes gouged out and his skull crushed by the hulking giant who admitted to his crimes before perishing in the same fight.

Ellaria sought the help of Oberyn's brother King Doran in avenging his death to no avail. She, however, finds an opportunity to do so when Princess Myrcella is sent Dorne to marry Prince Trystane and poisons her.

In “Game of Thrones” Season 7 Episode 2 entitled “Stormborn,” Euron Greyjoy ambushes Daenerys' fleet and captures Ellaria Sand to give her and her daughter Tyene as a gift to Cersei. The Queen then imprisons them in the dungeon and forces Ellaria to watch as her daughter slowly dies from the same poison she used on Myrcella.

What will happen to Dorne?

After Ellaria Sand killed King Doran and assumed leadership of Dorne, she allied with Olenna Tyrell of High Garden who also had a bone to pick with the current queen sitting on the Iron Throne.

They later crafted a plan with Queen Daenerys Targaryen to storm King’s Landing once and for all before their fleet was attacked by Euron Greyjoy.

However, in her interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Indira Varma who plays Ellaria, said that while her character remains alive, she will no longer be returning in the series.

She admitted that she wanted her character to bounce back from the heartache but it seems that watching her daughter die slowly while she is chained and helpless was just too much for the mother of the Sand Snakes.

The question now remains. What will happen to Dorne with no leader in place? It has been theorized that it would be easy for Cersei to storm the Kingdom and take it for her own with the help of Euron Greyjoy’s powerful fleet. It was also believed that Cersei may have already taken care of the matter before the Lannisters' attack on the Tyrells.
