Marvel's panel in San Diego Comic-con was jam packed with surprises this year. And among those surprises were the spectacular details we’ve learned regarding the upcoming “Captain Marvel” film. During their panel, they revealed that it will take place in the 90’s when Nick Fury still had both of his eyes. They also revealed some cool concept art showcasing the superhero's outfit. However, the most interesting reveal was the confirmation of the Skrulls in the upcoming movie.

James Gunn on Skrulls

During James Gunn’s interview with IGN, he expressed his excitement about the upcoming film and the introduction of the Skrulls.

He said that he’s unbelievably stoked on the idea and that the Skrulls are some of his favorite characters. He also said that he’d had other times where he wanted to use them and didn’t work out for one reason or another. He added that he couldn't wait to see their implementation into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What are the Skrulls?

Back in San Diego Comic-con International, we confirmed the existence of the Skrulls in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the concept art reveal. In the “Secret Invasion” storyline, this shape-shifting race of aliens was shown to be walking the earth among humankind for a very long time to prepare for their world domination. The unexpected reveal of their involvement in the upcoming “Captain Marvel” film created a cloud of suspicion on Nick Fury’s character among the fans of the comic books.

The strongest Marvel superhero

Carol Danvers was a US Air Force pilot who gained her superhero abilities after colliding with Captain Marvel, a creature from a scientifically and technologically advanced race of aliens called Kree. Later on after his death, Danvers decided to don his persona to honor him. She eventually joined the Avengers to defend the earth from danger.

According to Kevin Feige, Captain Marvel is set to become the most powerful Marvel superhero. During his interview with Vulture, he explained that Captain Marvel's powers and abilities are off the charts. He also stated that because of this, it would only be apt for them to counterbalance her strength with something real and relatable.

These are their reasons why they went with Brie Larson for the role. Larson is best known for her amazing work in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and “Short Term 12.”

Captain Marvel” is set to hit the theaters on March 8, 2019.
