When "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 premieres this September, fans, and viewers of the FOX comedy will finally find out how Detectives Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) are holding up in jail after they were framed by dirty cop Lt. Melanie Hawkins (Gina Gershon).

After last season finale's cliffhanger, fans were hesitant to believe that Jake and Rosa were really going to jail. Earlier this month, however, Dan Goor spoke out during the TCA panel (via Deadline), explaining that sending Jake and Rosa to jail "gives us stories going forward and this time it will hopefully impact the characters in a meaningful way going forward."

Charles Boyle is determined to prove Jake's innocence

But what kind of stories will "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 tell when it comes back next month?

For one, viewers will get to see just how Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) will react to Jake going to jail. During the trial, he was so stressed out over losing his friend to a crime Jake didn't commit, that Boyle's hair turned white.

Fans may also recall that Boyle doesn't handle stress very well. When his ex-girlfriend Vivian broke up with him, he became very depressed that he, a certified foodie, began eating boiled eggs instead. Lo Truglio told Entertainment Weekly that his character's way of dealing with stress now that Jake's in jail will be very different. He hinted, "They’ve got a wonderful cold open to show his depression, which rivals and—dare I say—surpasses him breaking up with Vivian in the Matrix leather coat cold open."

Boyle will make Lt. Hawkins pay

Another thing that viewers and fans are looking forward to in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 is seeing Lt.

Hawkins being brought to justice after framing Jake and Rosa. It now lies in Boyle's hands to bring her to justice. Joe Lo Truglio said that Boyle is "doing everything he can, he's he’s tailing Hawkins and he’s trying to take advantage of her making a mistake" all because "he's determined to make sure that [Jake's] innocence is known to the rest of the world."

Andy Samberg sporting a beard after Jake's 'guilty' verdict

Late last month, Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Rosa Diaz on the show, took to Instagram to share via Stories, a behind the scenes photo of their shoot for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5.

In it, fans got a first look at Andy Samberg sporting a beard, indicating a possible time jump and jail time for Jake. Viewers will get to see the bigger picture when the fifth season premieres on FOX on September 26.
