The highly anticipated "Avengers: Infinity War" is nine months away from hitting theaters, but already, fans cannot wait to find out how Earth's heroes (the Avengers) will team up with the Galactic Guardians. In the upcoming Joe and Anthony Russo-directed flick, Thanos (Josh Brolin) will finally get up from his throne to claim the Infinity Stones and use it to destroy the universe as we know it, beginning with the Earth, to spite his enemies. First footage of the upcoming film was shown during last month's San Diego Comic Con, and Marvel has decided against putting the footage online.

However, a bootleg has made its way to social media, and it hints at massive destruction on Earth. It sees the heroes struggling to fight Thanos' super-powered fist, thanks to the Infinity Stones that he has managed to get hold of. But before fans and viewers see that all go down, Karen Gillan, who plays the newly minted Guardian Nebula, hinted at an interesting team up for her character.

Nebula will finally gain a friend in 'Infinity War'

Karen Gillan's Nebula began as a supporting character in "Guardians Of The Galaxy," which originally was supposed to be killed off. Writer and director James Gunn decided against it, though, and it proved to be a great choice, as Gillan's Nebula played an even more interesting role in this year's sequel to the 2014 hit.

Nebula has become one of the Guardians now, and given the MCU timeline, she's also set to fight alongside her new teammates, as well as Earth's heroes, in next year's "Avengers: Infinity War." The actress recently spoke to Fandango and opened up about Nebula's fate when she meets up with the Avengers in next year's outing and teases that her character will finally gain a friend.

Karen Gillan talks Nebula's BFF

In "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," Karen Gillan's Nebula became an accidental hero. After turning on Thanos, she's now team Guardians, and in next year's "Avengers: Infinity War," she's set to make a new friend. She told Fandango's Erik Davis, "I know who her new BFF is, and I can’t tell you.

I promise you it’s brilliant and unexpected and just so good."

So who exactly is Nebula's newfound friend in "Avengers: Infinity War?" It's a possibility that her new BFF is Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, as the character was also first touted as a villain used against the Avengers in "Age of Ultron." Scarlet Witch also turned over a new leaf when her twin brother was killed in battle, which led her to switch sides to the Avengers.

Another possibility is Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, with whom Nebula might find similarities with. Black Widow is a professional assassin, and it's not highly unlikely that the two would get along. Gillan said, "[Nebula] is on a clear mission, as everybody is, to deal with someone with a glove, and I think that is the most important issue.

So I think people are grouping together to take care of this task."

"Avengers: Infinity War" hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
