Science fiction movies, the good ones, have traditionally performed well in the box office. 2018 will not be any different as films including “Pacific Rim: Uprising,”Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom,” and "Avengers: Infinity War" will look to rake in the vast majority of worldwide box office returns when they make their debut at the theatres.

‘Pacific Rim’ sequel looks to duplicate international success with ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’

Guillermo del Torro’s “Pacific Rim” didn’t exactly fare well at the box office in the U.S. despite receiving good critical reviews.

The sci-fi film had a production budget of $190 million and scored a measly $102 million in the United States. However, “Pacific Rim” netted $309 million outside the U.S. for a total of $411 million box office returns. This international success warranted the production of the upcoming sequel, “Pacific Rim: Uprising.”

Guillermo Del Torro handed off directorial duties for “Pacific Rim: Uprising” but stayed on as a producer. “Uprising” will be led by “Star Wars” star John Boyega who plays Jacob Pentecost, son of “Pacific Rim” hero Stacker Pentecost. Boyega has categorically stated that the Jaegers have been upgraded to fight the new generation of Kaijus.

“Pacific Rim: Uprising” is directed by Steven DeKnight and is slated for worldwide release on March 23, 2018.

And while “Pacific Rim: Uprising” hasn’t even been released, del Torro has stated that he is going to return for “Pacific Rim 3” as its director and writer.

‘Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom’ brings back Jeff Goldblum to team up with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard

“Jurassic World” is a reboot of the Steven Spielberg original hit “Jurassic Park” that was based on Michael Crichton’s novel.

“Jurassic World” earned $1.672 billion at the box office and that alone made a sequel necessary. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard starred in the reboot with Colin Trevorrow directing.

“Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom” will be directed by J.A. Bayona while Colin Trevorrow stays as its writer. Trevorrow will reportedly collaborate with Steven Spielberg to write the third part of the planned “Jurassic World” trilogy.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reprise their role, and Jeff Goldblum has agreed to play his old character from the original trilogy, Dr. Ian Malcolm. “Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom” is scheduled to be released on June 22, 2018. Fans in the United Kingdom, however, will get the first view of the “Fallen Kingdom” as it will hit theatres in Blightly on June 7, 2018.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is Marvel Studios most ambitious team up to date!

“Avengers: Infinity War” is the third film in the “Avengers” film series. It is also, perhaps, the most ambitious movie that Marvel Studios has tried to film.

Officially titled “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” brings back all the original members of the Avengers and will have them teaming up with other Marvel Superheroes including those from the “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and “Doctor Strange” franchises to fight against Thanos.

The plot will reportedly revolve around Thanos’ quest to gather the Infinity Stones that would allow the antagonist to amass powers that may be beyond the superheroes could handle. “Avengers: Infinity War” is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from the screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

“Avengers: Infinity War” has a stellar cast including Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Prat, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L.

Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Batista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Benicio del Toro, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Paul Rudd, and Don Cheadle.

“Infinity War Part 1” will be released on May 4, 2018, with its sequel, the “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” is scheduled for release on May 3, 2019.
