Warner Bros. just officially announced the Release Date for the highly anticipated return of Gal Gadot’s "Wonder Woman" on the big screen for a sequel.

The first “Wonder Woman” film was the fourth installment in the DC Extended Universe, which began with “Man of Steel: Dawn of Justice” back in 2013, and then followed by “Suicide Squad” and “Batman v Superman.” It is undoubtedly this year’s most successful box office film. The film has currently earned approximately $780 million already since its release, giving it a well-deserved seat on the list of highest-grossing superhero films of all time.

Official release date

The holiday season of 2019 is going to be wonderful. Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday evening that Gal Gadot is set to reprise her role as Diana Prince on the upcoming "Wonder Woman 2," which is set to hit the theaters on December 13, 2019. Awhile back, Warner Bros. announced an unnamed WB event film to be released on that date. And as some fans have suspected, the most anticipated film landed on the said date. The sequel to the hit superhero film is also set to be released in IMAX.

More details

According to Variety back on June 20, 2017, Patty Jenkins, director of “Wonder Woman,” was already writing the sequel’s script with Geoff Johns.

Toby Emmerich, the president and CCO of Warner Bros. said in his interview with Variety that the upcoming sequel to the hit superhero movie will not be taking place during World War I. However, it is still likely that the film would take place in the past. Rumors are already circulating regarding the setting of the sequel. Many fans suggest that the film could be set in the 1980s.

“Wonder Woman” received amazing reviews on its release back in June, easily set it to be one of the highest-grossing movies of the summer. Because of its success, Warner Bros. confirmed that a sequel was a no-brainer during their panel at San Diego Comic-con International over the weekend.

“Wonder Woman” opened with approximately $100 million in North America on its release date and performed better than other titles.

It is currently the 28th highest domestic grossing film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2017 behind “Beauty and the Beast.”

While "Wonder Woman 2" has finally revealed its official release date on December 13, 2019, Warner Bros is yet to announce the two remaining unnamed DC films set to release on February 14, 2020, and June 5, 2020.
