The premiere episode of "Game of Thrones" Season 7 opened with Arya Stark going one step further after the murder of Walder Frey in the previous season. Arya donned the face of the old man and poisoned the rest of the Freys to avenge her family. But could this mean that Arya will end up on the Iron Throne in the HBO series?

People have long believed that Cersei Lannister will not remain the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms for long. Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow might try to overthrow the new queen in "Game of Thrones." However, Maisie Williams has teased on the possibility that Arya Stark could rise to power by the end of the show.

Arya Stark on the Iron Throne

Maisie Williams recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the opening sequence of "Game of Thrones" Season 7, where she stated that she hoped the audience wouldn't figure out that it was Arya wearing the face of Walder Frey. Interestingly, the "New Mutants" actress also shared her own theory on who would end up on the Iron Throne.

“I’ve always had this fantasy in the back of my head — I don’t think it’s a good ending and fans might not like it — but that somebody would sit on the Iron Throne at the end and then they whip their face off and it’s Arya instead,” Williams said. She added that she had dreamt about the possibility for a long time.

Will Arya kill Cersei next on 'GoT'?

With the Freys out of the way, there is little doubt that Arya Stark will try to tick off the next name on her murder list, which is Cersei Lannister. This could be a difficult task, especially with the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms being guarded by her own twin brother Jaime Lannister. However, it looks like Arya will be distracted by the return of a long-lost friend in "Game of Thrones" Season 7 Episode 2.

The trailer for "Stormborn" has reportedly dropped a hint on the return of Nymeria, as per The Independent. The direwolf was last seen in the first season of "Game of Thrones" when Arya ordered her to flee after she attacked Joffrey Baratheon. Since then, Nymeria has stayed away from her mistress. The identity of the direwolf in the teaser is still a mystery.

However, fans are holding on to hope that the creature is Arya's beloved Nymeria and they would soon be reunited in the seventh season.
