"The Walking Dead" is a hit TV series about a post apocalyptic world where zombies exist. It was developed by Frank Darabont for television from the comic books series of the same name created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Carlie Adlard.

"The Walking Dead" has become an internationally recognized series as if follows the survival of character Rick Grimes and his friends and family. The series has recently seen an end to its seventh season and the trailer for season 8 of the show was released at San Diego Comic Con 2017. The trailer teases a time jump in the series and builds up the sense that a huge battle is just around the corner.

Fans of "The Walking Dead" were shocked to see that the trailer for season 8 appears to reveal a time jump in the series. The trailer introduces all of the characters of the show as of season 7. It shows evil character Negan is still in the game. There are various scenes showing the monotonous slaughter of the zombies at the hands of the survivors. This feeds into the aspect of the time jump as this represents the years going by as Rick and his friends struggle to survive.

At the very end of the trailer, Rick Grimes is spotted in a hospital bed. There are flowers by his bedside and a cane leaning next to the wall. There is then a close up of Rick's face revealing a gray beard and an old haggard looking face.

Fans were taken completely by surprise as it appears that several years have passed by in "The Walking Dead".

Kirkman comments on 'The Walking Dead'

The trailer for the show was released at San Diego Comic Con 2017. Co-creator of "The Walking Dead" comics Robert Kirkman made several appearances at the convention. He talks to the audiences about the projects he is currently working on as well as what he has in mind for "The Walking Dead".

According to NME, Kirkman stated that he knew a few years ago how the series was going to end. He stated that his vision for the finale of "The Walking Dead" has not changed since then.

Furthermore, Kirkman also stated that because he has had the ending in mind for quite some time everything that has happened in the series is leading up to this finale.

This had fans raving for the series and heading back to old comics to see if they could pick up any hints of what could possibly be around the corner. Kirkman shared with the fans of the show that he had considered ending the series earlier. However, he admitted that he reached the point in the series and simply was not ready to bring "The Walking Dead" to a close. This prompted Kirkman to throw away his idea for ending the series and keep going as he wanted to explore more story lines and sequences.

There has been no further comment on the trailer for season 8. Fans have been left to speculate as to what this could possibly mean. They will have to wait until October the 22nd to find out.
