The continuation of “Steven Universe” Season 5 remains to be seen, but the lead character’s voice actor Zach Callison has a lot to say about the show. The 19-year-old star, who is also a singer, revealed the animated series’ developments that fans will surely love.
In an interview with Den of Geek at the recent San Diego Comic-Con 2017, Callison talked about his portrayal of Steven and what he wants to include to his storyline. Also, he gave a couple of details on the show’s continuation.
The show’s arc, struggles and traits
Zach Callison described Steven as a caring friend who also has a childlike-wonder attitude, which is one of the main traits of his personality.
No matter how much his character ages, he feels like he will still have that childlike energy because of his very happy-go-lucky attitude. However, the things that have been happening to him are his great challenges that make him become more mature, serious, and practical.
“That’s the dynamic of the show,” he told Den of Geek.
Callison revealed that fans will see big differences between the episodes where Steven is just seen roaming around the city and episodes where horrible things are happening. These two forces are said to be the arc of “Steven Universe.” However, Steven himself is having a hard time juggling between these two, which can be considered as his major struggle as the show goes on.
Steven’s unanswered questions
Because of the changes, Zach Callison wants Steven to have the closure that he has been looking for and all his lingering questions to be answered.
Unfortunately, these queries give him uncertainties. A lot of his inquiries haven’t been answered yet, as most of them don’t know anything about his past, even the Gems and his own father have no idea.
Although they are all there to support him, there is not much they can tell him. Evidently, it is hard for Steven to understand the things about his mother, Rose Quartz. With that, he wants him to feel contented and find peace in his life.
Personally, Callison revealed that he can’t change anything about “Steven Universe” Season 5’s storyline.
He, too, does not read the storyboard beforehand, as he wants to see how the story will flow when he acts it.
“The writers are really good at their jobs so it’s hard for me to theorize,” he said.
Teasers and hints
Meanwhile, talking about “Steven Universe” Season 5, Zach Callison revealed that fans are about to see a lot of drama in it.
“It’s a bit of a murder mystery which is cool,” he teased. There are also a number of possible “crazy story arcs” that viewers might see or not. However, he promised that they will definitely push to do it, so that fans could witness it.
