The cast and crew of Riverdale attended the San Diego Comic-Con earlier this week and they revealed that the show would be introducing two new troublemakers to spice things up in the already-complicated lives of Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Jughead Jones, and Veronica Lodge.

Veronica’s ex-boyfriend is coming to town

Earlier this week, actors Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, KJ Apa, Camila Mendes, Casey Cott, Madelaine Petsch, Hayley Law, Ashleigh Murray, and executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Sarah Schechter attended the San Diego Comic-Con.

Their panel revealed the new trailer for “Riverdale” Season 2 and even opened up about what’s in store for fans in the new season. The show runners promised that the new installment is going to be darker and sexier.

The second season will be introducing two new characters who will be stirring up more trouble for the show’s main characters. As if Veronica didn’t already have her hands full dealing with an angry boyfriend and an angry father, she now has to deal with a former bad-boy boyfriend.

Mendes, who portrays the character of Veronica, shared that the ex-beau will be bringing out the dark side in Veronica, which was something she has been struggling to overcome and forget. However, Veronica’s ex will be doing something terrible to her and Cheryl Blossom, which will force the girls to unite and fight the mean ex-boyfriend together.

A Serpent gets in the way of Jughead and Betty’s romance

Canadian actress Vanessa Morgan will be joining the second season of “Riverdale.” She will be portraying the role of a bisexual member of the Southside Serpents named Toni Topaz.

Toni will be Jughead’s guide in Southside, and the two are eventually going to get close. Aguirre-Sacasa described Toni as a female Jughead.

However, the executive producers pointed out that because Toni is a bisexual, she will become a trouble to a lot of people, not just Jughead. She may come in the way of Bughead’s relationship, but it could just be one of those couple's trials.

Reinhart assured fans that Betty Cooper and Jughead would be stronger together in the second season and the distance won’t affect them at all.

The actress even hinted that Betty would be exploring her dark side more in the new season and there might just even be a pink leather jacket in the future.

“Riverdale” Season 2 will be making its premiere on Oct. 11. The CW has yet to announce the number of total episodes in the second installment, but the first five episodes have already been confirmed.
