In a heartbreaking turn of events, "Outlander" season 3 may just see Claire and Jamie leading different lives. The recent trailer released for the upcoming season sees Claire struggling to cope with her present-day life while a recent photo sees Jamie getting down and dirty in some unknown adventure.

Jamie and Fergus' journey

An exclusive first look at the start of the season from EW shows a grubby and dirty Jamie (Sam Heughan) carrying his surrogate son Fergus (Cesar Domboy) in what looked like a forest. In an interview with the online magazine, Heughan explained that Jamie won't be himself for about six episodes of the new season.

Apparently, his loss for his beloved Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and the Battle Of Culloden will become evident on his appearance.

"Outlander" Season 3 resumes with Jamie being consumed with a great loss as his side gets defeated at the Battle of Culloden. Worse, his beloved Claire returns to her own time in the 20th century. Sam Heughan explained that Jamie was expecting to die in the battle. When he survived, he goes on an adventure with his surrogate son Fergus. This journey will force him to stay alive knowing for a fact that Claire is gone.

However, this won't be the end for the star-crossed lovers.

Avid fans of the story, especially those who read the book, will know that Jamie and Claire will reunite in the upcoming season. Hints of the highly-anticipated reunion have been thrown earlier this year, seemingly confirming the passionate reunion at the print shop after two decades of separation.

Claire struggles to live in the present

While everyone is anticipating the passionate reunion at the print shop, the trailer Starz earlier released will break the hearts of many. Fans will see Claire struggling to live in the present after she goes back to the 20th century. She returns to her husband and gives birth to a baby girl.

She'll be raising Jamie's daughter with Frank, struggling to cope with the loss of Jamie.

After 20 years, Claire is still at lost on how to go back to Jamie. While everyone is expecting that they will reunite, the trailer did not provide a sneak peek of the highly-anticipated scene. Based on Diana Gabaldon's third book titled "Voyager," the "Outlander" Season 3 should feature the passionate reunion of the star-crossed lovers. It's being reported that production designer Jon Gary Steele left an Easter egg to fans as a little reward.

"Outlander" season 3 will premiere on September 10 on Starz. Check out the trailer for "Outlander" Season 3 below.
