Luciferseason 3 will see the devil back to his carefree self, according to Tom Ellis. The actor shared some spoilers for the installment in a recent interview at the San Diego Comic-Con.

The devil and his wings

Season 2 of the Fox series ended with the devil waking up in the middle of a desert looking beaten and parched. Surprisingly, he also got his wings back. The last time we saw those angelic wings was in Season 1 when Lucifer burned them in front of his brother Amenadiel. Now, the question in everyone’s mind is naturally, how and why he got his wings back.

Tom Ellis, who plays the titular character, is sure that Lucifer’s father is responsible. When asked if fans should be worried now that the devil has his wings back, the actor replied that Lucifer is indeed concerned. Ellis also seemed sure that God has something to do with the return of his Lucifer’s wings. “He is absolutely certain that his dad again and dad’s manipulating,” Ellis told TV Line.

Lucifer starts to rebel against his father

Thinking that his dad again is behind everything that has happened, including the return of his wings, Lucifer begins to rebel. Ellis said that in Season 3 the devil gets to a point where he realizes that he has had enough of his father’s manipulation, so he retreats to his old self “just to prove a point to his dad.” The trailer shows the devil back to his womanizing and partying ways.

He is back to his carefree and jolly self who does not seem to have a care in the world.

What to expect from the devil in “Lucifer” Season 3

Lucifer is full of hatred for his dad when the show returns, according to Ellis. “This development that he may have been going through is full of resentment now,” the actor added. Likewise, Ellis teased that his character is on “mission.”

Aimee Garcia, who plays Ella, added that in Season 3 the devil wants to do the exact opposite of what his father wants him to do or be.

If God wants his son to be good, then he certainly intends to be the devil just to prove to his father that he does not have a hold on him anymore.

Meanwhile, expect to see Lucifer’s story fleshed out when the show returns on Oct. 2. One of the four stand-alone episodes that were originally for Season 2 will be a flashback to when Lucifer first arrived in Los Angeles. The episode will also reveal why he was banished from Hell.Fans will finally learn more about the devil and his backstory, especially about his relationship with his father.
