The “Game of Thrones” Season 7 was much awaited by the show’s fans. The first episode of the season which premiered on July 16 had the highest number of viewers in the series’ history. According to HBO, there were 16 million people watching the premiere on their televisions and streaming services. It is amazing how much the show has gained popularity with the very first episode of the series back in April 2011 got 2.22 million viewers.

Dragonstone” was worth the long wait. The premiere episode was a slow start but included significant moments and lines that would play out in through the season.

Here are the most memorable moments from the episode.

Arya kills the Freys

The opening scene of “Dragonstone” would probably be the most remarkable in the show’s history. In the Season 6 finale, Arya Stark slit the throat of Walder Frey. The episodes open at the Twins with Arya Stark wearing Walder Frey’s face. She was at a dinner party with ‘every Frey who means a damn thing’. Arya proposes a toast, serves everyone wine and as they drink, Arya enumerates their crimes. As the Frey men die one by one due to poison, Arya remarks “Leave one wolf alive and the sheep are never safe.”

Arya left the Twins after the dinner and is now on her way to King's Landing to kill the Queen. She even encountered Ed Sheeran (made a cameo as a Lannister soldier) along the way.

The Hound’s vision in the fire

The Hound is now traveling with the Brotherhood without Banners. They decided to stay the night in an abandoned home. The Hound asked Beric Dondarrion about the Lord of Light’s plans. Thoros of Myr told The Hound to look into the flames for answers.

The Hound saw a daunting vision. He saw thousands of the Undead marching past the Wall.

Dondarrion asks him “Do you believe we’re here for a reason?” The Hound looked scared of what’s coming and finds it all hard to believe.

Daenery’s homecoming

After 6 seasons, Daenerys and her army have finally arrived at the seat of House Targaryen. In the final sequence of the episode, they row towards the shore of Dragonstone.

Daenerys makes her way up to the castle, examining everything. She enters the throne room and tears down an old ‘burning stag’ banner from when Stannis Baratheon used the castle.

She makes her way to the war room and looks at the map of Westeros. She looks outside and makes a small grin and turns to the Hand of the Queen, Tyrion Lannister and asks “Shall we begin?

Other points in the episode

  • Samwell Tarly is in Citadel with baby Sam and Gilly. He finds out that there are a lot of dragonglass in Dragonstone. He immediately sends a raven to Jon.
  • Also in Citadel is Jorah Mormont, he asks Sam if the Dragon Queen has arrived in His grey scale has worsened and has now covered his arm.

Daenery’s single line for the episode “Shall we begin?” made fans of the show excited. The first episode of the season makes a great ground work for the rest of the season. The second episode of Season 7 “Stormborn” will be on HBO on July 23.
