Angelina Jolie recently gave an interview to Vanity Fair. It was inevitable that the Brad Pitt divorce would come up and when it did, Angie was very careful with her words.

The majority of the Vanity Fair article centered around Jolie's work in Cambodia as well as her new movie "First They Killed My Father." They eventually moved to the juicy information that most fans of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt wanted to know - the details of their split last year.

Healing the family

Jolie explained that she and her six children have been having the "hardest time" since she split from Brad Pitt last fall.

She started off by saying "things got bad" last year but corrected herself, saying that she didn't want to use the word "bad." Instead, Jolie insisted that "things got difficult."

It's hard to tell if she meant the family dynamic itself or if Brad Pitt's behavior caused the family split. There were many reports back during the shock of their divorce news that said Pitt had been drinking heavily and it bothered Angelina Jolie.

The "Salt" star continued the interview by saying that the kids have brave through all the drama. "In times they needed to be. We're all just healing from the events that led to the filing ... They're not healing from divorce. They're healing from some ...

from life, from things in life."

Angelina addresses Brad Pitt GQ interview

Angelina Jolie wasn't the first one to come forward and do a magazine cover story. In fact, the Vanity Fair interview seems like her response to Brad Pitt's GQ interview that took place after their split. Both actors made sure to tell their sides in well-respected magazines rather than through the tabloids.

Likewise, both were very careful about what they said.

Angelina said she wasn't surprised about Brad's interview. She also said that they were working toward the same goal and that they both care a lot about their family.

On reconnecting with John Voight

It was for that reason that Angelina recently brought her estranged father John Voight back into the children's lives.

In the midst of her divorce from Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie felt that have their grandfather around might be good for the children.

Angelina admitted that they have some strict rules regarding John's time with the children. His grandchildren are world travelers and very intelligent, serious kids. Due to that, Voight isn't allowed to make the kids play with him, according to Angelina. Instead, he is allowed to hang around and tell them cool stories and just be a "cool grandpa."
