Several fan petitions were launched with the hope of keeping "Sense8" going after its sophomore season was recently made available to stream in full. On June 1, Netflix confirmed that they are cancelling the show despite previously stating that the sci-fi series would get a third installment.

One of the many petitions created by "Sense8" fans on www.change.org has already amassed 485,537 signatures at the time of writing, almost reaching its goal to collect 500,000 votes. The campaign was initiated by the Argentinian fans of the original Netflix series.

The group stated the cancellation of show was "completely unexpected," considering the strong fan base of the web TV drama.

"It's quite strange that a show that has received such positive response from a wide and heterogeneous audience, gets cancelled," the petition stated. "We would like to know a valid explanation, arguing why "Sense8" has been cancelled. We believe it is necessary."

'Everything we dreamed it would be'

Netflix VP of original content Cindy Holland said "Sense8" will be remembered for its "bold, emotional, stunning, [and] kick ass" story created and played by a diverse cast and crew. She even commended the Wachowskis for producing a "truly global show" and for involving an "equally diverse and international" production team.

She added that these ideas are the reasons why the series is well-loved by international fans.

The network boss also thanked the cast and crew for their dedication and passion for the past two years. Aside from this heartbreaking news, Netflix failed to give the reasons behind the sudden cancellation of "Sense8" after its second season.

'We've seen the petitions, but...'

A week after the shocking announcement, Netflix released another statement to finally address the call of fans. Unlike "Limitless" fans who succeeded in securing a second season, "Sense8" petitioners failed to convince the network to pick up the show for another shot.

On Thursday, the streaming network admitted that they were aware of these online petitions requesting to bring back the show.

But, despite their desire to please the fans, the company formally said that "Sense8" has reached the end after two seasons.

"The reason we’ve taken so long to get back to you is because we’ve thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can’t," the company said. Fans, on the other hand, are left with no idea why the series was cancelled.
