George Stephanopoulos, co-anchor of "Good Morning America" and his comedian wife Ali Wentworth have spoken out about their 14-year-old daughter, Elliott. They both revealed on Twitter on Monday that Elliott has scoliosis. Both of them shared identical messages along with a group of photos of their beautiful daughter wearing a brace over her clothes.

Wearing a brace

According to both parents, Elliott wears a brace every day to keep the condition from getting worse. Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person's spine has a sideways curve that is in the shape of an "S" or "C." It happens mostly in teens when they are growing just before puberty.

Wearing the brace every day really helps. Scoliosis usually has no pain associated with it. People with severe cases have problems breathing, but there is usually no problem in the mild cases.

George and Ali didn't indicate who severe the scoliosis is that Elliott has, but it appeared to be a case where the brace is the only corrective measure. That is probably why both of them complimented her for wearing the brace every day.

The parents decided to speak out now because June is National Scoliosis Month, and they wanted to bring awareness to the condition that not many people talk about. Statistics show that about three out of every 100 people suffer from some form of the condition.

Stephanopoulos, 56, and Wentworth, 52, have another daughter, Harper, 12.

She does not have the condition that her sister has.

Reactions on Twitter

Many people commented on George and Ali's posts. Twitter followers sent the couple of 16 years well wishes and support.

They mentioned how beautiful and brave Elliott is. Some people who have had the same condition mentioned their own experience

George and Ali did not mention where the photos were taken, but it is apparent that the family is somewhere on vacation because George is absent from "Good Morning America" this week and anchor David Muir of "ABC World News Tonight" is sitting in for him.

Celebrities with scoliosis

According to research, about 6 million Americans have some form of the medical condition that Elliott Stephanopoulos has. Fortunately, there is no stigma attached to it. People might be surprised to know that some of the well-known celebrities with scoliosis are Usain Bolt, Elizabeth Taylor, Kurt Cobain, Shailene Woodley, Liza Minnelli, Yo-Yo Ma, Laura Dern, and Vanessa Williams. The condition didn't seem to hinder their careers.
