Priyanka Chopra attended this year’s Cannes Film Festival with her Sikkimese production. The Bollywood actress is set to produce a new movie through her Production House, Purple Pebble Pictures. The first clip of her film “Pahuna” was unleashed at the ongoing film festival.

In addition to “Pahuna,” Chopra is busy in international promotions of her Hollywood debut. In “Baywatch” she plays an antagonist, Victoria Leads, who fights against two mismatched lifeguards, Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, to accomplish her drug trafficking and money laundering operations.

Taking Bollywood to Cannes Film Festival

Though she could not attend this year’s Cannes, Priyanka Chopra made a brief appearance on Friday to promote her upcoming movie. The filmmakers Madhu and Sidharth Chopra also participated in the trailer launch of “Pahuna.” The movie is co-produced by Paakhi A. Tyrewala and will wrap production in January 2018. Priyanka Chopra said in a statement to Indian Express that she has plans to release her movie in December 2018.

On the other hand, Madhu states that it was an honor to be associated with such a wonderful project. “Pahuna” explores the lives of three Nepali children who get separated from their mom and dad while fleeing the Maoist agitation from Nepal to Sikkim.

The entire cast and technicians, excluding Priyanka, are from Sikkim.

In “Pahuna,” Chopra wants to capture the beauty of Sikkim and its people. No doubt, Sikkim is one of the most exotic lands, but people here have many issues. Most often, they don’t receive proper education and health facilities. Priyanka’s vision is to highlight the problems of locals through this film.

Last year, the Bollywood actress joined the jury for TIFFxInstagram Shorts Festival, a famous shorts competition for which TIFF joined forces with social media.

Upcoming projects

Born in 1982, Priyanka played the leading character in Yash Raj Films' drama “Gunday” directed and co-produced by Ali Abbas Zafar. Here she played a fabulous role, alongside Ranveer Singh, Irrfan Khan, and Arjun Kapoor.

Her other notable works are “Mary Kom,” “Outlook,” “Dil Dhadakne Do,” “Quantico,” “Jai Gangaajal,” and “Ventilator.” She has several television series and movies at the different stages of production. Most recently, the actress wrapped the work on Seth Gordon’s action movie “Baywatch.” She is reportedly producing over five regional films, which will debut in English and Hindi languages.

Chopra is also starred in the third season of “Quantico,” and signed an untitled Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury movie. Additionally, she will play a famous astronaut Kalpana Chawla in Viacom 18 Motion Pictures film.
