Hey, "Scandal" fans. This is definitely a good-news article for guys, as we are happy to be able to officially confirm that ABC did decide to bring your favorite show back for a brand new season! According to TV Line, this renewal announcement came pretty early. It took place back in February 2017. Channing Dungey, who is the president of ABC, delivered the announcement and had some very kind words to say about the show. He said that it continues to keep fans on the edge of their seats and he's very thrilled to be able to bring it back.

As soon as this week

Like always, this new renewal announcement means that you guys can officially prep yourselves to see new spoilers, cast interviews, sneak peek clips, photos and all the usual promotional stuff in the coming weeks and months. We might even see something as soon as this week if the press is able to squeeze some initial teaser scoops out of the producers. Be sure to keep checking back for all that good stuff.

Currently, we don't know how many episodes the new season will serve up. Season 6 didn't premiere until midway through the 2016-2017 season due to Kerry Washington's pregnancy. Hopefully they'll get it back to a full season for the 2017-2018 schedule.

The last season

According to another TV Line report that came out two days ago on May 16th, the new season will definitely be the show's last season.

Just like with the renewal announcement, ABC president Channing Dungey delivered the bad news during a conference call with reporters. He told them that the show is going to end the way that creator Shonda Rhimes intends for it to end. They totally support whatever she wants to do.

Going to go all-out

We also heard a statement from Shonda.

She basically said that they are really going to go-all out to cap off the series. They are not going to leave anything on the table. She also mentioned that the storyline for "scandal" just doesn't enable it to have a really long shelf life like her other show, "Grey's Anatomy." They also pointed out that the fans agree with that statement.

They took a recent poll and the fans overwhelmingly agreed that it's time for the show to end.

Still pretty strong

The ratings numbers pretty much echo that fan poll sentiment with a decline since its season 6 premiere back in January 2017. It started out with a 2.05 demographic rating for ages 18-49 and 7.6 million viewers. The latest episode that aired last week, May 11th, only brought in 5.1 million viewers and a 1.36 demographic rating. The numbers were still pretty strong but there was an obvious decline. Stay tuned.
