DMV rapper Logic is something of an enigma in the hip-hop world. He does not have a hit song to his name and his music is not widely played on the radio, yet he has established himself as one of the most consistent and best-selling artists in music today. His newly-released album entitled "Everybody," which dropped last Friday, May 5th, is already set to become the #1 album on the Billboard 200 album chart, with a projected 210,000 units sold.

Confronting the themes of race and equality

Prior to the release of "Everybody," it was a rarity for Logic to speak on race, specifically the nature of his own, as a half-white, half-black artist.

Unlike fellow hip-hop artists Drake and J.Cole, who are also biracial, Logic's appearance is that of a Caucasian male, thus, it was a relatively unknown fact that Logic is also half-black. Upon listening to "Everybody," it becomes apparent that Logic could no longer avoid the discussion of his race and how it has shaped him, and he opts to directly address his experiences on the album.

In addition to his own race, Logic also speaks on the state of the nation as a whole and the inequality that is present in today's society. On one of the album's standout tracks, "America," Logic raps: "So everybody, everywhere, listen to this fact, nobody treated equally, especially the black," encouraging his listeners to do something about it, saying that "Now, everybody got to fight for equal rights."

The fans respond

Logic's success as a top-selling artist without a mainstream presence is a testament to his fanbase.

Dubbed the Rattpack, it grows steadily with each release. Logic's fans' passion and loyalty shine through when his albums' sales numbers are released, and the response to "Everybody" shows that the fanbase is as strong as ever, as it is set to become not only his top-selling album, but also his first ever #1 album.

Logic maintains his strong connection to his fans in a variety of ways, utilizing social media and vlogs to constantly provide fans with behind-the-scenes footage, Q&A's, and sneak peeks at future releases.

His dedication to his fans fuels their passion, as he goes above and beyond to connect with them, even visiting the homes of several fans leading up to the release of his second Studio Album "The Incredible True Story," and listening to the album with them.

Whether you are a die-hard Logic fan or this is the first you have heard of him, his new album "Everybody" is worth a listen.
