The beginning

Chris Cornell started his rock career with Seattle-based band Soundgarden. With Soundgarden, Cornell became huge in the rock scene with the whole grunge movement that started in the early 90s. Soundgarden hit the charts with peers such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and among others. The band's biggest top charting records were Motorfinger, Superunknown, and Down on the Upside.

The band was known to have similar sounds to Black Sabbath as well as venturing into their own realm.

Soundgarden was also led with the heavy and dark lyrics by Cornell. Their sound became one that attracted many rockers of the dark and light genre. The band definitely made a stamp in the history of rock.

Other Projects

Cornell and his band also teamed up with Pearl Jam to form a band called Temple of the Dog in the mid-90s.

This new super band was formed to commemorate a fellow musician that came up in the Seattle scene. This musician's name was Andrew Wood and he was the frontman of Mother Love Bone. The self-titled album Temple of the Dog was Wood's last songs that he never got to record himself because the singer had died of a heroin overdose in 1990.

The other project that Cornell joined was Audioslave. This project included himself as the singer with Rage Against the Machine as his band. Rage had broken up with their singer Zack de la Rocha and decided to join with Cornell. After three albums, Audioslave had much success and many hits that are constantly being played on the radio.

Cornell also recorded some solo albums but did not reach the same levels of success like he did with his three band projects. Still, many rock fans love his style of singing. Cornell was able flail out a deep scowl while able to sing melodic and beautiful tones. He was quite a unique singer and an elite one in the rock scene. Watch his last performance:
