"Grey's Anatomy" firefighter spinoff series is coming straight on ABC. The news has been confirmed by the network during the recently concluded Upfront presentation which happened in New York City. This one-hour drama which is set in Seattle firehouse will focus on the group of heroic firefighters who will risk their lives in line with their duty and off the clock.

'Grey's Anatomy' continues to land successful ratings

This newest spin-off is already the second for "Grey's Anatomy" following the first which was all about "Private Practice." To recall, the series ran from 2017 to 2013 in ABC and it followed the life of Addison Montgomery after she moved from Seattle to Los Angeles to run her private medical practice.

For the past two seasons, the series has continued to make remarkable ratings and has been the pillar of ABC's schedule since it started airing in 2005. Its ratings have been a continued success even as it enters season 14 this fall.

Meanwhile, Channing Dungey, the ABC President, also added that no one can surpass the jeopardy that firefighters face in the line of their duty. Hence, Shonda Rhimes' Seattle setting is absolutely the perfect backdrop for this upcoming spinoff. Further, the script will be written by Stacy McKee and he will also serve as an executive producer along with Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

Episode count and launch date to be revealed

"Grey's Anatomy" firefighter spinoff is the second spinoff of the series.

The drama is set to focus on Seattle firefighters straight from the captain down to the lowest position. Further, the spinoff will also center on their personal and professional lives. The decision of having the spinoff comes after the show continues to become a massive performer in ABC network.

For the recent season 13, it has been named as ABC's number one scripted drama and which impressively features the veteran medical drama.

Additionally, the series has been recently moved its airing on Thursday nights and has served as the launchpad for ABC's Rhimes' produced shows which include "Scandal" and "How to Get Away with Murder."

As of now, ABC hasn't yet revealed the actual episode count and the release date of the second spinoff.

However, showrunner Rhimes will again have five shows on the ABC schedule and the spinoff is an absolute addition to the list. Rhimes also added in one of her interviews that at certain times, she comes up with a crazy idea and "Grey's Anatomy" the second spinoff is one of those.
