"Agents of SHIELD" started out strong, when the series premiered, critics say that the series is better than your average superhero show. However, as the series progressed, ratings also went down. The series suffered from regular extended breaks this year, making showrunners decide to just separate parts of the season into "pods."

A few months ago, the series was considered to be a bubble show, with its renewal up in the air. Some even suggested that season 4 is going to be the last of this ABC TV series, however, the finale was a real cliffhanger, and fans agree that it was definitely not they way the series should have ended.

A lot of questions are unanswered, and so loyal viewers fervently prayed for a renewal. Last week, their prayers have finally been answered.

'Agents of SHIELD' moved from Thursday to Friday

"Agents of SHIELD" season 5 will be aired Fridays instead of Thursdays, in an attempt to increase the ratings. Showrunner Jed Whedon and executive producer Jeff Bell recently talked to IGN about their plans for season 5 and the cliffhanger season 4 finale.

Viewers of the show seem to respond to the pod format well, and Bell said that people responded well to different story arcs and that they are going to look into that again as they move forward. Probably the best part about the upcoming season is the fact that it will have a straight run of 22 episodes.

The visual effects supervisor for the series, Mark Kolpack, has announced this on his Twitter account.

First arc for season 5 may be set in space

The final scene for season 4 finale showed the team enjoying a meal at a dinner. Suddenly, the lights went out, and soldiers and agents enter and used a device to freeze them. Meanwhile, Coulson wakes up on a spaceship, takes a moment to enjoy the view, and went back to work.

This had a lot of people curious. Did what happen has something to do with Coulson's deal with the Ghost Rider?

Bell and Whedon did not give any details about how "Agents of SHIELD" season 5 is going to be, however, when they were asked whether the show will pick up in space, or was that scene just a bit of a bait-and-switch, they said that bait-and-switches are not as fun.

Whedon teased that that question is like asking, "Are you going to do something cool, or is a sucker thing and we're going to be really sad?" Based on their answers, we can expect for "Agents of SHIELD" season 5 to be set in outer space. "Agents of SHIELD" will is set to return in January 2018.
