"The Fate of the Furious" is breaking records everywhere, and that’s not surprising by any means seeing as the previous film broke the $1 billion mark. Critics and movie-goers haven’t rated "The Fate of the Furious" on the same level as the last, but that’s not stopping the film from taking huge steps.

At this rate, the movie is set to win its second weekend at the U.S. box office. The film's domestic total now stands firm at $163 million and is projected to hit the $200 million mark if it manages to hold on for another week at the top. To help with the movie’s current success, Universal decided to have it open in 4,311 theaters nationwide, the first non-summer flick to open in this many theaters in the history of the business.

That's just one of the many records broken by the film, and certainly, there could be more.

Cost to make 'The Fate of the Furious'

The estimated budget of the film is around $250 million. So far, Universal released the movie in 63 territories around the world, which includes the United States and Canada. The production company should gain a good amount of profit from the film, enough to warrant several more films and considerable gain in terms of profit.

Spin-off movie with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham

Speaking off warranting more films from the franchise, a new report claims Universal is in the planning stages of developing a spin-off film with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as lead characters.

If all goes according to plan, we could be looking at the first of many Fast and Furious spin-offs.

According to sources, Universal is hoping to have a huge cinematic universe similar to that of Marvel and DC. The writer of this particular movie is none other than Chris Morgan, the primary writer of the series. As for what the story will focus on, rumors claim Johnson’s and Statham’s characters form an unlikely alliance.

So far, "The Fate of the Furious" has amassed nearly $800 million via the worldwide box office. $327 million came from China alone, and all this is happening very early. Chances are, the film could yet again surpass the $1 billion mark if it continues to trend. The next film should give viewers an idea of what to expect from this new cinematic universe in the making.
