Disney has announced the Release Date for highly-anticipated “Star Wars: Episode IX,” directed by Colin Trevorrow.

The movie is scheduled for May 24, 2019, and will cap off the latest trilogy of films, intending to put an end to the lives of Finn, Rey, Kylo Ren, and Poe in the war between the First Order and the Resistance. The shift in release date marks Rian’s thriller “The Last Jedi” as the final "Star Wars" film to be out after two years.

Reshoots and budget issues caused the release date to be shifted from March 2019 to May 2019.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ – an anticipated film with lots of action

Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is one of the most anticipated films. It is directed and co-produced by Rian Johnson and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the second movie in the “Star Wars" sequel trilogy, following 2015 blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

The film features Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Domhnall Gleeson, and Andy Serkis. Anthony Daniels and Gwendoline Christie are returning from the previous films. New cast members are Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro. Fisher died last December, so Kelly Marie is on board to play the role of Rose.

Announcement for the project

The movie was announced immediately after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012. It is a joint project of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman. John Williams, who composed the score for previous films, is back to “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Most of the scenes have been shot in Ireland and at Pinewood Studios.

In 2012, “Star Wars” creator George Lucas sold Lucasfilm and the film franchise to Disney for $3 billion. Johnson says that the movie will open with the last two scenes of “The Force Awakens.”

He’s already famous for “Gunga Din,” “The River Kwai,” Three Outlaw Samurai,” “Letter Never Sent,” and “Sahara.” The filmmaker claims that all these movies became an inspiration while developing “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
