Nikki Bella, who is one of the most popular female WWE wrestlers, announced that she is taking a break from wrestling. According to E! News, the newly engaged diva wants to focus on recovering from a past injury that required surgery last year.

What happened to Nikki?

The "Total Divas" and "Total Bellas" star, who got engaged to fellow WWE wrestler John Cena during last Sunday’s Wrestlemania 33, had surgery on her neck in January 2016. She took some time to recover for the better part of the year. She recently started training again in order to prepare for her tag team match (with Cena) against The Miz and Maryse for WrestleMania 33.

The reality star and wrestler took to Instagram last night to break the disappointing news to her fans. In her message, which contained pictures of her ‘Fearless Nikki’ gear, stated that this is not goodbye. As of now, she has every intention of returning to the ring, but she needs time to heal.

She went on to say that she recently had an MRI and CT scan that showed a slight herniation from where she had her surgery. She hopes that she is back in the ring soon, but says that it all depends on her recovery.

Bittersweet last match

Nikki knew going into her tag team match during WrestleMania 33 that is would be her last one for awhile. She admitted that it was an emotional night for her, especially since she knew that it could very well be her last ever.

She said that she also knew going in that she was planning on making her announcement to take a break later that week.

However, the night also gave her a reason to celebrate. Immediately following her winning match, her longtime boyfriend Cena got down on one knee to propose marriage. It was a moment that was a long time coming for the couple, who have been together since 2012.

She told E! News that she is remaining positive, saying that right now, she is “leaving it in God’s hands.” She added that she is looking forward to what’s to come, both in her personal and professional life.

Best of luck to Nikki for a speedy recovery!
