People Magazine announced Julia Roberts’ selection on Wednesday, making it the fifth time the “Pretty Woman” has been chosen as the “World’s Most Beautiful Woman.” She has previously held the top spot in 1991, 2000, 2005 and 2010.

People reports that it has been 26 years since Roberts first appeared on the cover of their “World’s Most Beautiful” issue, saying Julia is still their favorite pretty woman. As for Roberts herself, she told Jess Cagle, editor-in-chief of People, that she is very flattered and can hardly believe she has won again.

It turns out Julia is now well and truly ahead of her friend George Clooney, who People have dubbed “Sexiest Man Alive” twice.

Roberts joke about that fact in her interview with People, saying she will mention it in this year’s Christmas card to the Clooneys.

‘World’s Most Beautiful’ in 1991 and ‘Pretty Woman’

It was when Roberts was the tender age of 23 that she first featured on the cover of People’s 1991 “World’s Most Beautiful” issue. This happened a year after she gained instant fame in the popular romantic comedy “Pretty Woman,” playing opposite Richard Gere. When asked how much her life had changed after starring in the film, Roberts said she had no idea at the time.

Roberts said it actually became a joke, as when people asked her if “Pretty Woman” had changed her life, it turns out she was actually out of town when the film released in theaters.

She said she was in a small town that was showing the first run of “Star Wars” at the time. While there, she read about the fact that “Pretty Woman” had come out that weekend and the amount of money it was making. She asked herself if that was a lot of money and was it good, but she actually had no idea at the time of the impact the film would have.

Fairy-tale ending for Julia Roberts with her husband and children

Roberts believes the best is yet to come in her life, adding that she thinks she is currently peaking. Roberts, now 49, went on to say she found her confidence after those “awkward” early years, saying she found her own fairy-tale ending with her husband, cinematographer Danny Moder.

She says that every time her husband walks in the door, it is like a recurring dream. She then went on to describe her happy marriage of 14 years to Moder and her three children, 12-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 9-year-old Henry.
