Christian Bale is the Batman many fans of the character have come to love over the past several years. Ben Affleck is wearing the cape and cowl at the moment, but Christian Bale was the man who brought energy back to the Batman brand in films.

Bale is a prolific and consistent actor who tends to feature in a lot of entertaining movies throughout his career. After leaving the Batman role behind, some fans have wondered if he’ll ever suit up again to play another superhero in the future.

Done with superhero films

During a recent interview with the folks at Collider, Bale made it clear that he has no interest in making appearances in future superhero films.

One of the reasons for not wanting to associate himself with the genre anymore is because he has no interest in comics.

“No, I’m not interested in doing that. I’ve never seen — I’m trying to think if that’s correct, I think I’m actually correct, I can’t remember a single superhero film that I’ve ever watched. Apart from the ones I made and like, the Christopher Reeve Superman movies... I have no understanding of it and I’m completely blind to it.”

That’s quite surprising for a man who did such a fantastic job in three Batman films that partially influenced the direction of the DC Extended Universe. Then again, the Dark Knight movies weren’t your typical comic book movies, and that’s one of the main reasons why they are so memorable.

If the money is right, many Mr. Bale will have a better incentive to return, at least for a short while.

What’s truly odd about this entire story, is the fact that Christian Bale has never watched the new DC films with Ben Affleck as The Batman. That is probably the surest sign yet that he doesn’t have the slightest interest in the genre, and as such, fans should allow him to venture into other areas of interest.

The promise

Christian Bale’s newest film is called “The Promise.” The film is set in the last days of the Ottoman Empire and is based on three characters trapped in a love triangle that doesn’t end well. The budget for making The Promise stands at $90 million, and so far, it has earned little over $4 million at the box office.

When it comes down to what critics think of the film, well, it’s not terrible, but not good either. At the time of writing, “The Promise” has a 47 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, and 49 percent on Metacritic.

If things continue down this line, then it's safe to say "The Promise." is one of the biggest flops of the year.
