It appears as if Animated Films have now won over the role of family entertainers in Hollywood. Most animated films offer a little something for everyone, which is why we are now seeing a lot more animated films than ever before. Studios like DreamWorks and Pixar have managed to create the perfect formula to constantly churn out one successful film after another, and they were on a mighty roll in 2016. It looks like STX Entertainment is also looking to contribute to the animation genre, which is why they recently announced their involvement in three animated films set to release over the coming years.

Uglydolls

STX entertainment made a major announcement during CinemaCon 2017 regarding their future projects. The production house has already been involved in making successful films like “The Gift” and “Secret In Their Eyes”, but it looks like they will be taking a break from making intense films to focus on more entertaining projects.

The first feature lined-up in the pipeline is “Uglydolls”. The animated feature will be directed by Robert Rodriguez, a man best known for making action films and Spaghetti-westerns. The studio revealed that this project was pitched by Rodriguez himself, who apparently fell in love with the toys after picking them up for his son. “Uglydolls” has been given a fun tagline – ‘Be bold, be unique, be you’, and is set to release on May 10, 2019.

The Eddie Murphy Project

STX entertainment’s second animated project does not have a title yet, but one major detail has been confirmed so far. Comedic giant Eddie Murphy will be the star of this feature, and the story will center on the life of Bo, the fiercest Bull in rodeo history. Bo has a son called Bo Jr. (obviously), but unfortunately for Bo, his son wants to be a Rodeo clown.

The proud and fierce Bull cannot stand by and watch his son pursue such a seemingly pointless life, so the film will revolve around the father changing his son’s mind.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The final announcement made by STX focuses on the animated adaptation of the 1970 hit musical “Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”.

Since it was first released, the popular musical has been performed all over the world and has become incredibly popular. Composer Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice will be involved in bringing the animated version of this musical to life. STX also announced that one of the writers of Disney's hit film – “The Lion King”, will also be on-board for this project

All three animated features sound extremely exciting and distinct from one another. There are some big names tied into these films and we can expect more details to be revealed by the studio over the next few months.
