A brand new "power rangers" movie hit theaters this weekend and it is just the start of something huge. According to reports, there are five more movies coming in the new rebooted franchise. While the first movie has yet to prove itself at the box office, there are sequels planned and they include the introduction of the Green Ranger.
What is planned for the 'Power Rangers'?
It seems almost ridiculous that five "Power Rangers" sequels were planned before the first movie even hit theaters but that is how movies are made now. With the success of Marvel movies, DC Comics is trying to accomplish the same thing and the new "King Kong" movie is also building its own world as is the upcoming "Mummy" movie, which connects to "Dracula Untold" and "The Wolfman." Studios love franchises now and they want "Power Rangers" to launch one as well.
According to Haim Saban, the man who created the original TV series in the 90s, he has a six-movie arc planned out for the franchise and the characters. With so many spinoffs of the Rangers on TV through the years, this should come as no surprise. It will also help the movies introduce the most popular of the group in the Green Ranger, something the studio has already teased on Twitter.
Who is the Green Ranger?
It is not a surprise that the Green Ranger was not in the first "Power Rangers" movie, despite his popularity. Tommy didn't even make his first appearance until the 17th episode of the first season of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" even though he became one of the most important members of the team.
From the sound of the rumors, both Lord Zedd and the Green Ranger will end up as part of the planned five sequels but there might be some changes when it comes to the Green Ranger himself. The biggest change is that there are strong rumors that the green Ranger won't be a he, at all, but instead be a female character. This was something the cast members hinted at in interviews before the movie debuted. It is also interesting that the villain in the "Power Rangers" movie uses the Green Rangers dragon so there could always be a chance that change could come true.
