There have been a lot of rumors over who could play Cable in the upcoming "Deadpool 2" movie. While there have been many names that seem to fit the role, Fox almost signed a huge name actor to take on the role in Brad Pitt. However, Heroic Hollywood reports that Pitt chose not to take on the role, leaving the "Deadpool" sequel still looking for an actor to play the important role.

Brad Pitt flirting with Cable role

Brad Pitt has started making some very interesting film choices lately and moving into the superhero genre isn't as big of a surprise with names like Will Smith already making their way there.

The role of Cable in "Deadpool 2" is a major role because it is for more than just the "Deadpool" sequel. While Cable is a great contrasting character to Deadpool in the comics, he is also someone that will play a large role in future Fox "X-Men" movies since he is also the leader of "X-Force," Which is coming after "Deadpool 2." If that is the case, Brad Pitt would need a strong commitment. The word is that Pitt passed on the role of Cable possibly because he is working hard on getting a sequel made to "World War Z."

Options for Cable in "Deadpool 2"

There is still a chance that Brad Pitt could step into the role of Cable in "Deadpool 2," but since it will also include a role in "X-Force" and maybe even a "Cable" solo movie, it is a huge commitment for a star as big as Pitt.

With that said, there are still other options for the role. Rob Liefeld, the comic book creator who created Cable and X-Force really wants Russell Crowe to play Cable. That is not likely with Crowe starring in the new "Mummy" movie, kicking off the Universal monsters franchise. Kyle Chandler ("Friday Night Lights") read for the role but isn't up for the "Deadpool 2" character at this time.

Many fans have asked for Stephen Lang ("Avatar") due to the similarity between him and Cable but there has been zero word on anyone talking to him about the role. David Harbour from "Stranger Things" also read for the role recently. According to reports, Ryan Reynolds wants a major movie star to appear as Cable to carry the movies after "Deadpool 2."
