Certain actors and directors manage to create magic when they work together. Think Scorsese and DeNiro, or Tarantino and Jackson. A new and equally potent combination has emerged in Hollywood recently, with Colin Farrell and Yorgos Lanthimos creating cinematic genius in their films together. The duo is teaming up once again, but this time for a limited series produced by Amazon on the life of Oliver North.
A controversial life
Oliver North has certainly lived a controversial life, to put things gently. The ex-Marine Lieutenant Colonel was charged with selling illegal weapons to Iran in the 80’s but has since been cleared of all allegations levied against him.
He has been awarded the Silver and Purple Star for his service to the country and has also served as the deputy director of the National Security Council. He is currently the host of Fox News’ “War Stories with Oliver North,l” and remains a popular public figure.
The new Amazon series will look to create a biopic on Oliver North’s life, and tell the tale of a talented combatant who has lived a controversial, but epic life. The show will feature Colin Farrell as the lead character and will be directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson have been tasked with creating the script for this limited series.
This is what Lathimos had to say regarding the new project: “I’m really excited to be working with Colin again on something quite different to what we have done so far.
I look forward to joining forces with Ben and Nicky, who had an excellent casting idea and saw the potential of the material early on and Amazon, who has embraced the project with great enthusiasm. It makes me very confident and excited to be working on a script which, although based on relatively recent history, feels very fresh and relevant to our times.”
What to expect
Farrell and Lathimos have already worked together in two films so far - the 2016 sci-fi love story “The Lobster,” and the recently completed “The Killing of a sacred deer.” “The Lobster” has been hailed as one of the best movies of 2016 and was extremely different in terms of story line and execution.
Clearly, the talented duo has an eye for picking up fascinating projects and bringing them to life in a perfect way. We can expect this new series to contain the humor, surreal drama, and excellent cinematography we have come to expect from Lathimos behind the camera. Amazon is also on a dream run in terms of film and television development, and their new project is sure to be another glorious feather in an already crowded hat. No release date has been set yet, but we can expect to see the series on screen later this year, or early next year.
