Britney Spears' niece, Maddie, was in a very serious ATV accident over the weekend. The 7-year-old daughter of jamie lynn spears was reportedly riding an ATV when it "flipped over into a pond," trapping the youngster underwater for a couple of minutes. Although Jamie Lynn and her husband, Jamie Watson, rushed to rescue Maddie, they had trouble undoing the seatbelt, causing the youngster to stay underwater for a longer period of time.

Spears family releases a statement

Shortly after news of this accident was reported, the spears family released a statement about the incident.

While the statement did not give away any details, it did claim that the things people have been reading in the media haven't been true. It is important to note that the statement was released before the Sheriff's Office released their report (below), which seemed to match much of the information provided by various online news outlets.

"The details the media are reporting surrounding the incident regarding Jamie Lynn‘s daughter Maddie are incorrect," the statement began. It ended with a request for prayers and respect for privacy.

Sheriff's Office releases incident report

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call and have referred to this accident as a "horrible incident." The Sheriff's Office has requested "constant prayers" from the public and has also asked that the public respect the family's privacy during this difficult time.

Britney Spears breaks her silence

Maddie's aunt, Britney Spears, released a very short statement on social media on Monday asking fans to pray for her niece.

"Need all the wishes and prayers for my niece," Spears tweeted, along with a purple heart emoji and a photo of Maddie.

Maddie Spears' current condition

Maddie is listed in "critical but stable condition" at this time. There have been various reports about the child being unconscious and some outlets seem to be hinting that she is on life support, but there has been no such confirmation of these rumors.
