Oh, Mimi, what happened? Mariah Carey just disappointed millions of viewers who were hoping to see her perform a medley of hits on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest' on Saturday night. The award-winning singer-songwriter took to the stage in Times Square shortly before the countdown to 2017 and spent more time walking around the stage than singing.

Billed as the headliner for this year's 'Rockin' Eve' show, Carey came on stage minutes before midnight and sang along to a track of Auld Lang Syne. Accompanied by her backup dancers, Mariah was then to perform a medley of her most popular songs but ended up talking to the audience and asking them to sing for her.

Twitter goes wild when Mariah fails to perform

It was evident that Mariah was frustrated that her track wasn't playing during the live New Year's Eve show — after a few minutes of pacing the stage with her dancers, she finally sang along to her music when the track came back on. But her performance was short-lived and she didn't appear all that happy when she walked off stage.

The reaction on Twitter was comical, with some tweets pointing to how Mariah's lackluster performance was the perfect way to end 2016 — a year that has had its fair share of craziness and tragedy.

Here's a sampling of some of the top tweets that started blowing up everyone's Twitter feed as we rang in 2017.

"The Russians have allegedly hacked Maria Carey's monitors...," tweeted @geoffwe

"Mariah Carey's performance fully represented how shi**y this year was for everyone," wrote Twitter user Gabby Guidry.

"Thank God I was watching the Twilight Zone and did not witness that Maria Carey debacle," tweeted @nikkiasdavis

Host Ryan Seacrest made no mention of Mariah Carey's questionable performance and quickly moved on to the biggest moment of the night — the Times Square Ball drop and countdown to 2017.

Fortunately, Mariah's performance happened in 2016 because it wouldn't be a good start to 2017 to have a popular music artist kick off the new year with a lip sync fail.
