Entertainment

Blasting News (BN): How and when did you decide to get into your acting career?

Gelsea Mae (GM): For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to perform. Whether it was singing, dancing or acting, I just knew that whatever I would end up doing would be in the Entertainment Industry.

BN: What originally made you want to become a musician?

GM: It was about two years ago that I started posting fifteen-second clips of me singing on Instagram for fun that oddly started a fan base. I then started posting full music covers on YouTube, to writing original music and distributing it online. I truly never thought that pursuing a music career was realistic and it wasn’t until about a year ago that I really decided to take it seriously and give it a shot.

It was honestly all of the random people on social media, that encouraged me to pursue it and I am so grateful that they did. Within a year, I’ve accomplished so many things that I never thought was possible.

BN: What styles of music influenced you when you were growing up?

GM: I’ve always listened to a lot of pop music, even as a kid.

I’m a 90’s baby, so a lot of Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Ashlee Simpson, Shania Twain, Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, The Spice Girls, Mandy Moore and Christina Aguilera. You can probably actually hear a bit of the 90's influence in my current music. I also remember watching a lot of “American Idol” with my Dad growing up.

Projects

BN: As of now, what has been your favorite project?

GM: The process of writing my single “Need You Now” to recording it in the studio with Juno award winning producer and songwriter Ryan Stewart, to directing and executive producing the music video and hearing the finished product on the radio and top pop playlists by Spotify Canada on Spotify has definitely been the most rewarding project thus far, as it has drastically changed my music career.

BN: What would you consider to be your absolute dream project?

GM: Musically, I would love to collaborate with Taylor Swift. I was front row at her 1989 world tour in Vancouver and hands-down, she is one of the most talented singer-songwriters/ performers of all time.

It would be an honor to work with her.

BN: What's the best thing about being in the entertainment industry so far?

GM: I think when you’re in the public eye, you automatically have more of a voice that people will listen to, and so it’s been nice to be able to spread positive messages throughout my social media that have had an impact on the younger generation.

BN: What advice would you give to someone who trying to become an actor or musician?

GM: Only do it if you absolutely love it. It’s a dark place to be in, if you’re in it for the wrong reasons.

BN: So, what exciting new projects are coming up for you?

GM: I’ll be seen as Leila in the new television series “The Arrangement”, which airs on E!

Network this Spring. I will also be starring as Seleena in a feature film called “The Fusion Generation,” which will be released in theatres this Summer. I’m also excited to announce that I will be releasing yet another single produced by Ryan Stewart, called “Shoulda Known Better," in February and will be back in the studio recording my first EP.
