After the slow and rather disappointing start, "American Horror Story: cult" was finally able to produce an episode worthy of the show's reputation. There were simply too many questions that desperately needed answers and what better way to address almost all of them than with a flashback episode. So "11/9" takes us once again to the Election Night and its immediate aftermath. Only this time, instead of focusing on Ally (Sarah Paulson) and her fears, the episode explores the origins of the cult as it follows Kai Anderson (Evan Peters), its leader, on the quest to get people to join his cause.

There was so much going on in this episode, so to get the good grasp on everything that happened, we're going to break each section with a particular emphasis on some shocking moments. So without further ado, let's get down to business.

'Welcome to Trump's America'

Just like the season premiere, this episode takes us to the Election Night. Only this time, we see our characters standing in line, waiting to vote. And it wasn't long until the episode deliver what turned out to be just the first of many shocking moments. We are, of course, talking about the scene in which Gary (Chaz Bono) revealed his severed arm hysterically shouting "Welcome to Trump's America" after he was done the voting.

The cult gathers

The rest of the episode revolved around Kai Anderson and his attempt to use the post-election crisis to manipulate his way into the lives of the characters he so patiently observed. And boy was he successful.

Kai's first "victim" was Harrison (Billy Eichner), his personal trainer. After he quickly gained his trust by whispering some sweet words of encouragement, Kai was finally in the position to get Harrison to murder his boss.

Then, while the poor man was sawing off his boss's head in the bathtub, his wife Meadow (Leslie Grossman) walked into the apartment and, much to the everyone's surprise, calmly asked Harrison who Kai is. Then, clearly impressed with a young, charismatic cult leader, she ended up designing the clown masks for them to wear.

The clowns

The next segment of the episode focused on the rivalry between Beverly Hope (Adina Porter), an experienced TV reporter whose position is now threatened by Serena Belinda (Emma Roberts) who exclusively does fluff pieces and is sleeping with their boss.

After he took notice of her hidden anger, Kai offered Beverly an equal power in the new world he is creating. This, as well as the fact that they killed her rival, made her join the cult.

Ivy's secret

And last, but not least, we had an unexpected encounter between Ivy (Alison Pill) and Winter (Billie Lourd), Kai's sister and fellow cult member when Gary, an avid Trump supporter openly mocked Ivy for her liberal activism. It was then that the duo decided it's time to teach this man a lesson.

They did so by handcuffing him to the wall in grocery basement to prevent him from voting. However, Kai appeared soon enough to offer Gary (Chaz Bono)a choice to either miss the election or to cut off his hand.
