Coming off the most bizarre election in American history, the insanity continues. The Central Intelligence Agency recently presented lawmakers with information claiming they had substantial evidence proving Russia intervened in the 2016 Presidential Election, with intents to help #Donald Trump get elected. Pieces of evidence were presented to President Barack Obama weeks before the election, but further analysis of the evidence led to the CIA making this information public. It comes at a time of immense turmoil in the United States, and could play a significant role going forward. Trump has since denied these reports, releasing a thorough explanation through his favorite form of communication - Twitter.

In his defense, it is odd that the CIA, which already had information regarding the supposed hacks by Russia, chose now to release their findings. However, much like the FBI re-opening the email investigation of Hilary Clinton days before the election, Trump will learn that these reports tend to come out in the worst of times.

I'm fairly certain the CIA have advanced technology and experienced employees who have the ability to track down hackers to their original source.

If they traced these hacks back to members of the Russian government, there is a good chance that the Russian government was involved. So, why is this report significant?

It's a Non-Partisan issue

According to Tal Kopan of CNN, "Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell broke with President-elect Donald Trump over Russia on Monday, saying he supports a congressional investigation into findings that Russian hackers attempted to influence the election."

This is significant because members of the Republican party, like John McCain, Mitch McConnell, and Lindsey Graham have all supported an investigation into Russia's involvement in the 2016 election. House Speaker Paul Ryan also took the same stance:

"Any foreign intervention in our elections is entirely unacceptable," Ryan said in a statement. "And any intervention by Russia is especially problematic because, under President Putin, Russia has been an aggressor that consistently undermines American interests."

Trump has come out in support of Vladimir Putin over the course of his campaign, adding fuel to the fire.

During the campaign trail, Hilary Clinton and the DNC had their emails hacked and released. The CIA also confirmed that Russia hacked the RNC, but did not release any information. If the CIA can firmly prove that Russian hackers intervened in the US election with intent to assist Donald Trump, his presidency may never come to fruition. Why?

December 19th, 2016

A petition that has been signed by over 4.3 million people is encouraging members of the electoral college to cast their vote for Hillary Clinton when they meet on December 19th. When they meet, electors of each state are expected to cast their votes for President and Vice-President. However, if for any reason, these electors feel like their original vote on November 8th doesn't represent the best interests of the people of the United States, they can change their vote. Unfortunately, it has never changed the outcome of the election.

According to FairVote, "In all, the group states, “82 electoral votes were changed on the personal initiative of the elector.” Eighty two electoral votes have changed since the conception of the Electoral College. To put it in perspective, about 37 electoral votes must be switched in favor of Hillary Clinton for the outcome of the elections to be changed.

Will it happen?

As of today, 10 electoral college members have demanded a briefing on Russia's involvement in the 2016 election before casting their votes on December 19th. While 10 is not enough electors to change the election outcomes, the movement has picked up significant steam since the CIA revealed their findings. If the CIA works fast enough, and can firmly prove that Russia intervened in determining the 2016 election, we could witness a bizarre outcome on December 19th. #russiahackedelection #ciarussia
