Donald Trump has won and the Israeli right is celebrating his ascendancy to the president's chair. Obviously, the policy of Obama which was to try and distance the USA from Isreal in the hope of a Middle East solution was bound to go overboard. The relations between Obama and Netayanahu was at best frosty and Obama for reasons best known to him did try and equidistance between #Israel and the Palestine government . He also refused to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Fresh political equations
The political equations are likely to change and that is the reason the Israeli far right led by Naftali Bennet of the Jewish Home party are all celebrating the victory. He is the education minister and he is happy. He has gone on to record " the days of a separate Palestine state are over". The Jewish home party also supports the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Israeli right delighted
Why is the Israeli right delighted at the victory of #Donald Trump? the business magnate who will now be the US president has during the election campaign showed that he was pro-Israel to a degree. He had announced that the days of treating Israel as a " second class citizen" will end from day one of his presidency. More important he is likely to support Israel on its move to declare Jerusalem the capital. David Friedman advisor to Donald on Israel has said in a statement to the Jerusalem Post that " we are going to see a very different relationship between America and Israel in a positive way"
However, Donald Trump is an unpredictable commodity and as we have seen he can change views and positions in a moment. The Israeli prime minister Netanyahu is more guarded and though he has welcomed the coming to power of Donald, privately he has asked his advisors to keep all contacts under wraps.
Donald as president will, however, be closer to Israel than to the Muslim state of Palestine. After all, through the campaign trail, Donald has lambasted Islamic terror and has no compunction to use this word, unlike Hillary and Obama who never used the word Muslim in relation to terror. Probably like the change of Indian policy with the arrival of Modi, some change can be expected with Donald at the helm.
