The Como Brothers is based in Long Island, New York as musicians that have an upbeat blend of blues, pop, and rock ‘n’ roll #Music. This band has had their music featured in TV shows such as E! Network's Keeping Up With The Kardashians, MTV's Real World Portland & St. Thomas, and Oxygen Channel's Best Ink. They have had the pleasure of working with Grammy award-winning music producer Graham Marsh, who has collaborated with Bruno Mars and CeeLo Green in the past. The Como Brothers’ latest album Imagination was released on August 10th, 2015. After listening to their entire album, I reasoned that they sound like some popular artists you most likely know, such as John Mayer and Ed Sheeran.
The band members Matt Como and Andrew Como are both responsible for the vocals of the songs. Their voices do not sound substantially different. They sound very similar. Matt’s singing reminds me of Taylor Swift. His voice has a free-spirited and bubbly energy like Taylor’s voice. Andrew’s singing reminds me of Ed Sheeran. His voice has a smooth and mellow energy like Ed’s voice. They both sound like they have received professional training for their vocal abilities. They are easy on the ears and youthful, so it is kind of hard to get tired of their singing because it sounds very enthusiastic.
Favorite song for vocals: “Tell You I’m Fine”
As for the instruments, Matt is responsible for playing the bass, and Andrew is responsible for playing the guitar. The instrumentation is animated and full of zeal. The music is very cheerful and exuberant, so it encourages me to be in a good mood. The brothers sound like very seasoned players. They sound as if they have been playing their instruments for years and have received formal training. The instrumentals are nicely coordinated and fit in well with the singing. In fact, the brothers’ singing sounds more vibrant with the help of the instrumentals. Their music brings to mind The Beatles, especially because of the guitar playing.
Favorite song for instrumentals: “Bold As Love”
The nature of the lyrics are confident. They express love and self-acceptance. I got the impression that the band wants to spread a message about maintaining a positive outlook on life, despite how hard life's obstacles can be on the human soul. A good example of that is the song “Tell You I’m Fine,” which includes this verse: “the hurt will only hurt if you choose.” In other words, your choices determine how happy or sad you are; you can choose to succeed in having a satisfying life by keeping a healthy attitude. Another message I got from their songs is to appreciate one's uniqueness and to resist the temptation to be a passive conformist who prefers to live a stereotypical life. I also sensed that their lyrics are somewhat hopeless romantic.
Favorite song for lyrics: “Good Enough For Me”
I give The Como Brothers’ latest album a 8 out of 10 rating. Overall, I think they are a very sophisticated band to listen to. I think their singing abilities need more structure. Yet their musical talent really shows promise. They have accomplished some nice mainstream acts as independent artists. The different genres of music that are connected to their songs are tasteful together as well as entertaining.
