It is remarkable how much our world has advanced and how far it has come in terms of architecture especially. The new and upcoming Jeddah Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia proves this and takes it a step further as it is set to become the world's tallest tower beating the Burj Khalifa after its completion in 2019.

Tallest structures in early history:

As time has passed, we have seen bigger buildings and monuments. they are not only aesthetically pleasing but also built due to land constraints as the world population increases. Some structures that were deemed massive centuries ago are just mere monuments that just stand as tall as a few stories of the skyscrapers that have been built in recent times.

Once upon a time, between 2560 BC and 1311 AD, the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, made for the Pharos held the record for the largest structure. It is 146m (481 ft) tall and the only wonder of the ancient world there is. After its completion, The Lincoln Cathedral became the tallest tower in the world in 1311. This record was held by the 160m (525 ft) structure till 1549 when the St Mary's Church in Stralsund, Germany was built. It was just 151m, which is less than the record that The Lincoln Cathedral held. The spires of the Lincoln Cathedral were cut short by a storm that hit the city.

Recent History and the future:

After the Lincoln Cathedral, the Strasbourg Cathedral in France, the Church of Saint Nicholas in Hamburg, Germany, the Rouen Cathedral in France, the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, the Washington Monument in USA, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France and the Chrysler Building in New York, USA held the record up until 1931.

The record held by the Chrysler Building was that of 331m (1046 ft) between 1930 and 1931. Then the Empire State Building took over after its completion standing tall at 381m (1250 ft). Many people falsely believe that this is the second tallest tower in the world after the Burj Khalifa but it is much lower in the list. The Ostankino tower in Russia became the tallest tower before the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada took over in 2007.

Since then the Burj Khalifa which is located in Dubai has been the tallest tower in the world, standing 830m (2722 ft) from the ground. The Jeddah Tower which is set to be completed in 2020, is going to become the world's largest tower standing more than a kilometer above the ground. The Jeddah tower is going to be 1007m (3307 ft) as planned. There will be 167 habitable stories and 252 including the ones in the spire which will make it the tallest structure ever built by man.
