A police officer was stabbed in the neck and back on Wednesday in a possible terror-related incident at the Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan, as reported by CNN. According to the Transportation Security Administration, the police officer was attacked in a public area of Bishop Airport's main terminal. A spokesman for Michigan State Police, Lt. David Kaiser, identified the police officer as Lt. Jeff Neville.

The FBI investigations and witnesses statements

According to sources and witnesses at Bishop International Airport, the suspect allegedly shouted "Allahu akbar" before stabbing Jeff Neville with a 12-inch knife with an 8-inch serrated blade.

The officer was bleeding from his neck. Jeff Neville has been working at the airport since 2000 and is a member of the airport's Public Safety Department. He has two children and a retired Genesee County Sheriff’s Department lieutenant.

According to the FBI statement, the attacker made statements when attacking the officer. However, it is too early to determine the nature of these alleged statements and whether it was a terrorist attack or not. They believed the attack was an "isolated incident."

The airport authority confirmed on Facebook that all the passengers were evacuated and are safe.

Law enforcement officials said the attacker had a Canadian passport and belonged to Quebec.

According to CNN, President Trump has been notified about the attack.

Police actions

Mark Young, Genesee County Commissioner told NBC News that he spoke with the victim's family at the hospital, and he had a surgery. Young added he was still in recovery and everyone was relieved after his stable condition. Mark Young and Jeff Neville have been friends for 35 years and two had worked at the Genesee Sheriff's Office.

Young said Neville has a remarkable career and earned many awards.

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder supported the victim with the words and prayed for him on the Twitter.

"Please keep the attacked officer in your thoughts," wrote by Governor Rick Snyder on Twitter.

Michigan State Police initially tweeted about the critical condition of the officer but officials confirmed his stable condition after the surgery around 1 pm. According to the airport stats., about eight hundred thousand passengers took flights through Bishop airport in 2016. The airport's Police Department has 12 officers for the airport security.
