"Best Lyrics" is one of the more prominent category awards given out during the iHeartRadio Music Awards. The ceremony, held this year on Sunday, March 5, found two worthy candidates to honor the award with singer-songwriters Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran for the Billboard Number One hit song, "Love Yourself."

The award

Bieber wasn't around to accept the award on Sunday night, but Sheeran was. As has become expected from the British crooner, he was earnest and endearing in receiving the award. The best part may have been the friend Sheeran brought on stage with him, though, who blurted out "I got to pee" when given the opportunity to speak into the microphone, like a child pranking his class during a school assembly.

The tandem won for "Love Yourself," a hit song featuring lyrics such as, "my mama don't like you, and she likes everyone." The story of the song is self-explanatory when considering the title, but the muted way Bieber sings it and the relative lack of instrumentation makes the song seem like a soft whisper in the wind. The song, which was voted on socially, beat out many other contenders: Lukas Graham, Blake Shelton, Sia, The Chainsmokers, twenty-one pilots, Alessia Cara, Adele, Drake, and Cole Swindell.

Winners winning

"Love Yourself," which was also co-written by producer Benny Blanco, garnered numerous accolades since being released in November 2015, most of which flowed directly to Bieber.

It was nominated for "Song of the Year" and "Best Pop Solo Performance" at the Grammy Awards. It finished as the No. 7 selling song in the United States in 2016, despite its release with two months remaining in 2015.

Sheeran isn't having too shabby of a time himself, though. His appearance and victory at the iHeartRadio Music Awards comes just two days after the release of his new album, "Divide." The album has been met with much acclaim and has shot Sheeran up all sorts of charts in the days since its release. An award for "Best Lyrics" on a song he didn't sing is probably just icing on the cake.
