Despite below-average temperatures breaking records across the Northern Hemisphere, the Washington Post is warning readers the North Pole may warm up 40-50 degrees on Thursday, which they blame for Arctic sea ice loss. Except the data doesn’t back up the claim. The Danish Meteorological Institute, which tracks Arctic sea ice, shows 2016 being similar to 2014 and 2015.

The anomalous weather event is a consequence of an always shifting jet stream, and not #Climate Change, which alarmists repeatedly claim is long-term weather over many years. Even 19 years of no statistical warming wasn’t long enough for NASA and NOAA to declare the great global warming scare was over.

But a day of warming from a naturally occurring event is a beacon of impending doom.

Tony Heller, who runs the site Real Climate Science, says the Arctic is not as cold as normal “because deep waves in the jet stream have brought cold air south, and milder air north.” That’s how weather works. Meanwhile, the record-breaking cold has sent temperatures plunging to -55 degrees F on Summit, Greenland, and allowed for snow to fall on the Sahara Desert (not seen in 40 years).

Polar jet stream

And this year’s sea ice extent is higher than 2007, 2012, and 2013, so the Post’s claim about record low sea ice isn’t grounded in reality. Heller also writes that large dips in the polar jet stream are bringing cold air to the Midwest and East while bringing warm air to the pole. It even happened in Dec. 1977, but that was during the 1970’s great cooling scare.

Since satellite tracking began in the late 1970s, scientists have had to rely on ship logs, newspaper clippings, and on-the-ground reporting to reconstruct the Arctic’s past. Then computer models began predicting the ice would disappear altogether by 2050, with others predicting an even faster decline. Alarmists used these computer model forecasts to great advantage: the polar bear became listed as an endangered species even as its populations were thriving.

Arctic ice hysteria

Because the media thrives on tension, outlets began weaving stories to fit the narrative of an Arctic death spiral, worrying in 2007 the ice cap would be gone by 2013. Then in 2008, they said the Arctic would be gone by the end of the year. Former VP Al Gore fed the hysteria and said in 2009 there was a 75 percent chance the entire polar ice cap would be completely ice free in five or seven years during the summer.

And with President-elect #Donald Trump taking office in a month, left-wing media outlets are prepping the public with junk climate science and straw-man arguments. Trump has promised to roll back many of the regulations and executive orders ushered in by President #Obama and slash any rules blocking job growth. He has also vowed to make America energy independent, which includes embracing the use of fracking, off-shore drilling, clean coal, and renewables.

The $4.5 trillion boondoggle

With Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt heading the EPA, expect to see overreaching regulations axed and the EPA’s influence greatly reduced. Under its current leadership, Gina McCarthy has issued more regulations than her predecessors combined. And a new report shows Obama’s global warming agenda will cost the U.S. economy $1 trillion over 30 years. The Democrat’s plan would cost $4.5 trillion or roughly $10,300 per person.

As Trump prepares to revitalize industries and manufacturing jobs decimated under Obama, liberal outlets are ramping up the climate rhetoric to undermine his efforts. As Heller cautions, those who have jumped in front of the ‘Trump Train’ have been crushed.
