The 11-day Cannes Film Festival would begin on May 17 with its full grace. It has now been confirmed that new projects of Sofia Coppola, Noah Baumbach, Todd Haynes, Michael Haneke and Michel Hazanavicius will compete for the Palme d’Or at the festival. According to Eelle, the lineup includes 50 movies from 30 countries.

Just like the previous years, Sofia Coppola is forefront at the 70th Cannes Film Festival. “The Beguiled” directed and produced by Coppola will be screened for a competition. The film stars Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Colin Farrell.

It is a remake of the 1971 movie of the same name. Mr. Haynes’s “Wonderstruck” is also competing at the festival. The story is based on a novel of the same name by Brian Selznick. The third prominent project is “The Meyerowitz Stories” directed and co-produced by Baumbach. Its cast includes Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson. Baumbach has joined hands with Netflix for this project. Another movie in the competition is “Okja” directed by Bong Joon-ho. Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton have played the lead roles in this movie.

Netflix and Amazon

Several Netflix and Amazon films would be screened at this year’s Cannes. Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, says that “120 Beats per Minute,” “The Day After,” “A Gentle Creature,” “Good Time,” “In the Fade,” “Jupiter’s Moon,” and “Loveless” have been selected from hundreds of entries.

At least three projects of Amazon would premiere at Cannes Film Festival. These include “The Meyerowitz Stories,” “Wonderstruck,” and “Blade of the Immortal.”

Television shows

The television shows that will be screened at the upcoming festival are “Top of the Lake” by Jane Campion, and “Twin Peaks” by David Lynch. There are rumors that these TV programs won’t be a part of the competition, but nothing is confirmed.

We look forward to the Cannes to know more. Mr. Haneke was previously in the news for the success of “Amour.” He received numerous awards for this movie. The filmmaker is returning with another incredible project “Leviathan” that will be screened at the festival. International critics say that four new Nicole Kidman projects will be screened this year.

The actress looks excited as her “The Beguiled” will open the festival on May 17. It would begin immediately after the elections in France. Pierre Lescure, an organizer of the event, says that they haven’t compromised on security.
