Ice! is progressing rapidly at the #Gaylord Palms Resort in #Orlando in anticipation of its November 18th opening. Chinese artisans arrived at the resort over the past several weeks to transform blocks of clear and colored ice into fanciful sculptures, telling the story of “A Charlie Brown #Christmas” and creating a nativity finale. They chip away at the massive frozen blocks and sculpt them with deft hands into recognizable figures and objects, like Charlie Brown and the gang. As you navigate the nine degree rooms, you’ll feel like you’re walking through the beloved 1965 TV special, with all of the best scenes brought to life.

It was taken at the Gaylord Palms Resort as the artisans worked rapidly to make sure the exhibit would be ready in time for opening day. Not only are they preparing “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and the nativity, but also the On the Blocks Ice Bar, where adults can enjoy a truly chilled libation to warm them up a bit. The work continues non-stop all the way up until November 18. While most of the workers return to China, a small contingent stays behind in Orlando to show their skills in the Frostbite Factory and maintain the sculptures until Ice! ends on New Years Day.

Chinese talent creates an icy wonderland

If you’d like to hear from some of the artisans themselves, click the video below where two of them share their story through translators. You’ll see their arrival at the Gaylord Palms Resort on October 20 and hear what it’s like for them to visit Orlando and how they got started as ice sculptors.

Many hail from Harbin, China, which is known for its famous ice festival that features breathtaking works of art created in the cold climate. Florida is a bit different, since Ice! must be housed indoors, but it still gives guests a taste of the talent, albeit on a smaller scale for the Christmas event.

Ice! is just one part of Christmas at the Gaylord Palms Resort, which also includes activities like making gingerbread creations, marveling at the Cirque Dreams UnWrapped show, enjoying cookies and stories with Mrs. Claus, and even sharing your Christmas wishes with Santa Claus himself. You’ll find more information on the resort’s website for overnight stays and longer packages, as well as options for day guests. Learn more about all of the holiday fun in the video below.

Snow comes to Orlando

As you can see, you’ll be able to go tubing on real snow and even throw snowballs. It's a rare occurrence in Florida, but you can always have a white Christmas at the Gaylord Palms Resort. Be sure to allow at least one full day so you’ll be able to participate in all of the fun.
