There is so much to do in the Lake Erie Shores & Islands region of Ohio. If you are in the mood for an island getaway, then pack your bags for Put-in-Bay, where you can find fun in the sun for days on end.

Getting to the island

The best way to get to the island is with Miller Ferry. In the summer, Miller Ferry runs about every 30 minutes. You can catch the ferry from Catawba and it takes about twenty minutes to get from there to Put-in-Bay.

The ride is an enjoyable one, with beautiful views of the lake and surrounding islands. If you want to bring your car to the island, Miller Ferry provides vehicle transportation as well.

If you don't have a vehicle on Put-in-Bay, you will want to rent a golf cart. This is the easiest and most fun way to get around the island. E's Golf Carts are located just a short walk from where Miller Ferry drops you off. E's offers hourly or daily rentals, and has two, four, six and eight passenger carts. The staff at E's are friendly and will happily offer recommendations on where to eat and what to do during your visit.

Brand new Put-in-Bay Condos

Put-in-Bay Condos are the newest lodging option on the island.

These gorgeous waterfront condos are located on 3 1/2 acres of lakefront property and some of the units sleep up to 12 guests. All of the condos come with fully equipped kitchens, modern appliances, decks and more. There is also a pool on the property for the guests to use. Some of the larger units even have a washer and dryer.

If you feel like getting out on the water, Put-in-Bay Watercraft Rentals is where you can rent water toys. They offer kayaks to take out on the lake, or if speed is your thing, try out a WaveRunner or a power boat. They also have sightseeing tours that are led by a licensed charter Captain. The short tours are 40 minutes long and the long tours last for one hour.

Family Fun

If you are looking for some family fun, stop at Perry's Cave Family Fun Center. This place has it all and you can literally spend the entire day here.

Some of the must-do activities at Perry's Cave Family Fun Center include a 20 minute guided tour of the caves, which are over 200 feet long and 52 feet below the island. There is also a butterfly house which is home to 50 different types of butterflies from all over the world.

The family fun center has an 18-hole mini golf course where at the start of each hole, you can learn some facts and history about the War of 1812. Another exciting activity at Perry's is their outdoor maze and the rock wall. The 25 foot tall rock wall has four sides, all ranging in difficulty from easy to hard. You can also pan for real gems, minerals and fossils at the mining sluice or stop in the antique car museum.

A helpful hint, before you begin your trip, stop in one of the Lake Erie Shores & Islands Welcome Centers. There is one located in Port Clinton and another in Sandusky. The Welcome Centers have maps, brochures, coupons, and helpful planning tips for your vacation. #LakeErieLove
