The Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP) score their third week atop the Active Rock Airplay Chart this week with “Dark Necessities.”  In the process of securing week three at Number One, the RHCP regain 153,000 in audience compared to the previous week, and stay above the seven million impression mark, 7.227 million, for Mediabase’s third consecutive seven-day tracking period.

Meanwhile, Volbeat’sThe Devil’s Bleeding Crown” loses another 72,000 impressions compared to last week’s report and finishes the tracking period with 6.457 in total audience.  This allows the RHCP to build their lead over the number two song on the Active Rock Airplay Chart to 770,000 impressions. In fact, with the exception of Volbeat’s single, the eight most listened-to songs at Active Rock gained all in audience compared to the previous week, along with staying steady from last week’s chart position.

Also of note – Disturbed’sThe Sound of Silence,” certified Platinum this week, retains its position atop Soundscan’s Hard Rock Digital Songs Chart for its 28th week, maintaining a huge lead over this week’s number two selling Hard Rock Digital Song.  Disturbed’s single has sold over 850,000 downloads.  The parent album Immortalized is likely gold-eligible, but not yet certified as such.

The Sound of Silence,” which peaked at number 42 in its (now) 20-week run on the Hot 100, is Disturbed’s biggest multi-format smash to date, and the most successful Active Rock crossover since Linkin Park’s platinum-certified “Burn it Down” peaked at number 30 in its 23-week Hot 100 chart run.
