Goth has become mainstream. It seems that "it girls" and celebutants have latched on to the all black lip trend. Once thought as depressing and even a little strange, these celebs have made the look modern, cool and now, easily accessible.

The Kylie Kit

In the never ending Kardashian marketing campaign, Kylie Jenner has come out with her own makeup line called Kylie Cosmetics featuring the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit. The brand has a full of line colors and of course, it features the 20-something Jenner as it's primary model. The goth color she models is called Dead of Knight. It's pitch black and really makes Jenner's lips stand out, giving her a more bold look rather than an depressing goth vibe.

It's no surprise that Jenner was chosen to market this look to the masses. Kylie's perfect pout has long been a selling point, even if there is speculation that it's manufactured. A little over a year ago, fans and followers of Jenner, took the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge. It was was how the mini mogul in the making claimed she got her lips to be so plump. Fans flocked to the internet to post the results of suctioning a bottle or shot glass onto their lips for a more perfect pout. By the end of the experiment, most of them were in tears. However, despite the results, the failed challenge has done nothing to damper Jenner's social media appeal.

Black Kat Katy

Katy Perry is another celebrity with her own cosmetics line.

She is a spokesmodel for CoverGirl and her lip collection is called Katy Kat Matte. The black lipstick she markets is called Perry Panther, because everything that Perry markets has to have a cute and clever name. You would expect nothing less from a singer who named her cat Kitty Purry.

In any case, Perry's black lip excursion is more of a throwback. It's 50's Pinup girl Betty Page meets modern day pin up Dita Von Teese. In a way, it trends to the more avant garde crowd than mainstream mavens, so naturally, this look will not be for everyone, even if it is marketed by a major makeup manufacturer.

Seeing Ciara in black

Apparently black lipstick can work on any skin tone. R&B singer, Ciara, took a selfie sporting the color. It looked perfect with her black policeman shades and her long black hair. While Jenner's black lips made her pout stand out, Ciara used the color to complete her look.

It's no surprise since black lipstick has long been used by the African American race. It naturally goes with their tan skin and dark locks. In fact, if you notice, all of the people on this list, from Jenner to Perry, have black hair. The black lipstick trend rarely works on blondes. Taylor Swift tried at the 2016 MET Gala, but even she had to go for a dark plum rather than a midnight black. That's because black lipstick on fair skin and bleached hair can give a corpse-like look to its wearer. While fashion industry has tried the corpse chic look, it's not a look most aspire to. In any case, the black lipstick trend should come with a warning: wear at your own risk.
